Avila Beach and Points South

Avila Beach lies eight and a half miles south of San Luis Obispo on the northern edge of San Luis Obispo Bay. Almost a brand new community after being rebuilt as a result of mitigation and removal of a massive oil spill, the quaint shops and bay side promenade give Avila Beach a special appeal. To get an even better view of the bay, take a walk out the Avila pier.

Also in town is the small Central Coast Aquarium. Open Thursday to Monday from 10am to 4pm, the small two room aquarium has 15 exhibits of sea life along the central coast. Admission is $10 ($7 for seniors).

Two hot springs are between Avila Beach and SLO – Avila Hot Springs and Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort and Spa.

Seven miles further south is Pismo Beach with its vibrant downtown and long beach. Pismo Beach also has a pier which allows great views of the bay and the sand dunes all along the coast.
